Cynthia Hoss is a licensed master bodyworker with 25+ years of experience and specialized training in Therapeutic Massage, Myofascial Release, Integrative Bodywork, and Touch for Health. She also holds certifications in Advanced Kripalu Yoga, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and is an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist trained by the Kripalu School of Ayurveda. Cynthia has been studying and teaching yoga for over 15 years and is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level with Yoga Alliance. She also founded and co-owned Awake and Aware, a yoga and bodywork studio in Kalamazoo from 2004 to 2014, before merging with Down Dog Yoga Center.

This full body 90 minute traditional Ayurvedic massage uses copious amounts of warm oil applied with smooth, gentle circular movements at the joints and long flowing strokes along the muscles to nourish your body. Abhyanga improves immunity, quality of skin and complexion, and tolerance to physical and mental stress; reduces the effects of trauma and fatigue; promotes sound sleep; nourishes lymph, blood, muscle, and other tissue; and alleviates dry, stiff, achy joints and muscles by circulating the oil deep into the tissues.
This luxurious treatment begins with an Ayurvedic assessment of your physical and mental state of being to help determine your constitution and which essential oils should be used to support balance in your system. The table is heated throughout the massage session to encourage the oil to penetrate deeply and support relaxation, and the treatment ends with a special moist heat pack on the back. Tulsi tea and cookies follow awakening from this delicious, nourishing, and healing experience!

Deep Tissue Therapy:
This is an area-specific approach that focuses on the deeper layers of the body. The target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments fascia, joints, or other connective tissues. Deep tissue massage helps to release chronic patterns of tension, break up and eliminate scar tissue, and remove toxins and adhesions while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both a corrective and therapeutic treatment.
Myofascial Release Therapy:
Myofascial Release is the three-dimensional application of sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system in order to eliminate fascial restriction. It benefits and supports recovery from surgery, injury, emotional upset, or an over-used body and mind.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy:
This is a multidisciplinary, hands-on approach to integrating body/mind therapies. Sessions are done on a padded mat on the floor and may include the following modalities: restorative yoga postures, Thai massage techniques, breath awareness, energy awareness, meditation, and conscious relaxation. It is based on the belief that true healing takes place from the inside out. Sometimes we have life experiences that get stuffed inside and eventually show up as chronic aches and pains or emotional upset. During the assisted postures of this therapeutic treatment, you will be guided to explore these areas with breath and sensation in a body-centered dialogue.
Relaxation Massage will help you let go of life's daily stresses. A variety of techniques and pressures are used to help release tension from the body. Leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to re-enter your life with a renewed attitude.
This modality uses smooth, rhythmic flowing massage on the body to gently relax and refresh.
Touch for Health Balancing:
TFH is a synthesis of techniques created by John F. Thie, D.C. that utilizes applied kinesiology, modern chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy, and Chinese accupuncture. The purpose of a Touch for Health Balance is to discover where there is blockage in the energy flow and to open the flow for natural healing to occur. A TFH session can improve postural balance, reduce physical and mental pain, and relieve tension by balancing the energy flow to put the body in the best possible state from which to heal itself.
A private Ayur-Yoga session with Cynthia will help you better understand how to remedy imbalances with particular foods and spices, lifestyle routines, and yoga practices. Ayurvedic treatments are carefully tailored to the individual, using well-established Ayurvedic principles as a guide.
